Controller's Comments
I must
apologise for the fact that 2 of the controls
were incorrectly placed. Jon Hurrell did a
fine job on his first attempt of planning, but I
should have spotted these.
As control 46 was placed at
the wrong boulder, although some found the
control quickly, others wasted many minutes there,
so it seemed fair to 'void' that leg on those
courses affected, which reduced every one's
overall times. The overall results
therefore have been adjusted, but the splits in
Winsplit could not be adjusted (something for the
SI experts to figure out).
Control 63 was on the wrong
crag initially, until I moved it to the correct
position half way through the event. Having
studied the splits, I dont think that this
error made a significant difference in times in
the same way as 46. Therefore, Ive
decided to leave the results as they are for that.
We also had the problem that
control number 58 on Brown and Blue failed to
bleep for all but one competitor (who did manage
to get it to register by taking it out and
shaking it around a bit). It had been
working when I checked it first thing, but
perhaps it didnt like the cold. It
was bleeping randomly when it came back at
the end, so it was clearly not happy. Alan
assures me that this is a rare occurrence.
Perhaps the club should use manual punches
attached to the stakes as a backup ,but then we
have to rely on competitor honesty to a certain
extent. In this case, since every
competitor commented on the problem, it was
obvious that they had been there, and probably
spent a similar time trying to dib.
It seemed fair, therefore, to just remove that
control from the courses affected, and reinstate
those already finished. Everyone's overall times
stayed the same.
Thanks to Steve Rose and
Graham Dugdale for dealing with these issues on
the SI, and to Sue Porter for organising.
My apologies again.
I hope you enjoyed your run despite the above, on
what was a beautiful winters day.
