| Organiser's
& Planner's Comments Congratulations
to Ann Hughes for winning the club championship
for 2008. Also congratulations to Olivier Boucher
who had the highest basic score, ignoring
handicaps. It has been said that the
handicapping system favours the elderly but
actually it just favours the successful older
members. Ann Hughes is currently first in her age
class in the national ranking list so I think we
can say that her winning the club championship is
well deserved.
The
assembly area for the event turned
out to be very pleasant, compact and convenient
for holding a barbecue. Thanks to Nicholas and
Vivienne Maxwell for organising this. The
unexpected unseasonal weather made the barbecue a
memorable event of the summer of 2008.
The
controls were placed so that visiting all of them
was well nigh impossible. To visit all of them
would have needed an 8.5 km run in one hour which
I think is pushing it a bit on Woodbury Common.
Some
of you found the terrain a bit arduous but that
is Woodbury Common unfortunately. It is difficult
to portray the vegetation as it changes quite a
bit from year to year. Route choices sometimes
have to be drastically revised once you have
actually sampled the nasty scratchy stuff!
For once I
seemed to be inundated with offers to collect
controls and these were collected very quickly
and the collectors did not miss out on the
barbecue. Thanks to the scouts, Wilf, Damian and
Ella for doing this.
Apologies
to Duncan Taylor who had to miss the main event
and turned up to collect controls alas too
late! He had to be content with a quick run
around the map looking for phantom controls and
eating beefburgers.
