Actually, I hardly did any.
This event was an exercise for our Talent
Development programme. The whole event was
intended to be planned and organised by our
juniors. Unfortunately we chose a bad date
clashing with exams, but will have a better
date next year, as we think that the experiment
was a success. I was just a sounding board and an
extra intermediary between planner and controller.
I think the coarses were fresh and performed well.
Luke Hayward can be particularly proud of the
highly competitive result on his Brown course. I
will be very interested to see your routes on
Gadget.
Conditions on the day were
not easy, with visibility a problem in the
thicker areas, which might explain longer winning
time for Green, I will run around it again. We
were lucky with the rain as it helped dampen the wild
fire caused by a camp fire not put out. We
found the slowly spreading fire when
planting last controls on the sunday morning.
Though Fire Brigade was needed to completely extinguish
the fire, we were very lucky it had not happened
the week earlier.
The vegetation in
the forest is improving well at the moment, which
is promising, though the plethora of cycle tracks
produces some problems. Do you approve of how
they were displayed on the map? Perhaps they were
too bold. On the day there were not enough
cyclists to be a problem so we could have not
highlighted them.
The next junior squad
Devon league event will be next spring, I hope
you will accept the challenge again.
