The intention was to provide running courses at the start of the season. This was generally realised. The number of pits and depressions, which on the ground were actually ponds, showed that we were fortunate with the weather on the day. Thank you all for coming and battling with the most unusual easterly wind on the long run-ins. I hope to see you all at future events this year. My particular thanks to Roger Green, the silent member of the event team, for his work in editing and clarifying the base map before producing the event maps. My thanks also to Steve and Bryan for changing my observations from pleasant summer strolls into an event that that most of you seemed to enjoy.

It all went very well, and that everyone did an excellent job. The courses were good and judging from the positive reports I heard from runners they were all well received.
I only had to make some minor changes to Mike’s courses, and it was all made very easy with the assistance of Roger Green who made up the map corrections based on Mike’s comments. OCAD and email made the rest even easier. How did we ever manage with paper maps and Royal Mail? It was a shame that so many people had to park on the road, as the car park was quite full, both with orienteers and the general public.

Additional thanks to Peter Flick for enquires, Roger Green for producing all of the bagged, pre-marked maps with control descriptions, to Mike (and Ann) Hughes for planning and to Steve Rose for controlling the event. As a consequence of this combined effort the event went very smoothly.
And final thanks to everyone for turning up. We sold 101 maps and approximately 109 people competed. A good start for the first Devon league event of 2006/7. Keep it up!
