Overheard
over a beer after the event:
We had a fairly
good turnout and on the whole they seemed to
enjoy it, said the Controller.
A couple of people
queried the map replied the Organiser.
Turning to the Mapper, the
Planner said Yes. There were some
comments about the accuracy of the contours
around control site 231 on the Light Green course
and some of the vegetation shading in that area.
The map was originally
produced from scratch at very short notice for a
National Trust orienteering taster
last October said the Mapper. The
taster was such a success that it was agreed to
install a permanent course there. The map was
surveyed and drawn with the taster in mind, with
some minor additions for the permanent course. It
was intended that courses would use the path
network and participants would not be encouraged
to stray off them. The contours were straight
from the OS map and were considered good enough
for the intended purpose. I accept it might not
be up to a club event standard in some areas, but
we thought that this would be a nice new area for
a CATI.
The Organiser chimed in
It was great having Graham Dugdale and Alan
Simpson to help us get things set up and under
way, and of course Dave Livsey was a great help
with the novices. They deserve our thanks.
Absolutely
agreed the Controller. Here, Here
added the Mapper. And dont forget the
terrific job Celia did in Registration.
