CommentsAfter a week of awful weather it was a relief when the snow melted and the sun
came out leaving ideal orienteering weather. The only hiccup was the lack of
loose control descriptions which had been lost in transit to the planner, otherwise
the event seemed to run smoothly and I am very grateful to all those who helped
out. After much pleading I had the minimum number of helpers required which did
mean some longer shifts but all those who wanted a run got one.

Planners Comments
Smallhanger has changed
quite dramatically in the last 9 month. The new
road side fence has changed its character little
but the absence of head height gorse in the East
makes for very open and runnable orienteering
terrain. I took guidance from the Course Planners
Information and ...in such areas Planners must
plan at the correct level as far as the terrain
allows. I think this was achieved for the most
part and it was good to hear that a few Brown
Course runners had to work hard in the china clay
area. On the open moor I am aware that a few
controls stood high but
the control banner
should be visible from all directions of
approach
perhaps they were at times a
little too visible but frozen ground prevented us
from forcing these any further. A low cloud base
on the day would have made it all a little more
challenging, but I am not going to complain about
the weather and I hope the Orange Course
competitors enjoyed their longer than normal leg
between controls 7 and 8 with a good run
across the open moor.
